The Journey of a Lifetime.
This piece depicts my journey through the military from a fresh faced young recruit to a battle scarred veteran of multiple combat tours.
As a new recruit I was a blank slate for the Army to form into a soldier.
As a young soldier I saw things in black and white, right or wrong, yessir or no sir. There was no gray area.
This is something a soldier hears often. "Pain is just weakness escaping the body!" It is a motivational tool when you're young. But when you become older, it is something you realize is an incredibly stupid ideal.
My battle with my weight has been constant and ongoing since my first day in basic training.
After a lifetime of service to my country I am now a civilian. But the Army will always be a part of me.
As a veteran of multiple combat tours, I have memories and injuries that keep me from doing things most normal people do. Healing takes time, but it does happen.
War is Hell
"Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see. There is an interest in that which is hidden and which the visible does not show us. This interest can take the form of a quite intense feeling, a sort of conflict, one might say, between the visible that is hidden and the visible that is present." - Rene Magritte
Everything I've been told or felt like doing since my return from Afghanistan...all on candy coated chocolate. Because, a spoonful of sugar and all that...

Serenity in Chaos
I love stacking rocks. The concentration needed helps me deal with my frustrations and brings me a sense of serenity as everything fades as I concentrate on balance.
A raw egg balanced between rocks set on thin ice. All of life is a delicate balance. We walk a razor's edge between sanity and and a life lost.
The cup is life, balanced precariously on icy rocks by a rushing river. Serene, for now.
There is only one way, we are told. But is that true?
Fire begets stone. Stone begets strength. When we are forged in fire we become strong. When the strong gather together, they are unstoppable.
Time is motion. We all move. But do we every really seek the stillness?
